There are 9 potential wives in the game. If you plug in your copy of Friends of Mineral Town or More Friends of Mineral Town, you can then bring that up to 14 wives to choose from. The 5 normal wives are Nami, Muffy, Celia, Flora, and Lumina. After them come the 4 special wives; the Harvest Goddess, Leia the mermaid, Witch Princess, and Keria. Lastly there are the 5 girls you can only get from the GBA connection. Those are Popuri, Karen, Mary, Ann, and Elli.

You will need to give gifts in order to increase a woman's interest in you. There are two values to her affection level. The Love Points will determine her heart color and her Friendship Points will factor in what other random events you might run into with her. The LP are more important than the FP values.

When her Love Points are 60,000 or higher then you can marry, but only if you have completed the other requirements. Besides having the woman at a red heart color, you need to also own the Big Bed, activated all 4 of her Heart Events, and have rescued at least 60 Harvest Sprites. Only after you have completed all 4 tasks can you give her the Blue Feather. The Feather will become available for purchase at Karen's store once you have a woman up to an Orange (50,000 LP) heart level.

If you want to woo a girl from Mineral Town you need to connect your copy of either GBA game to your DS. Once a week you will get to see one of the Mineral Town girls visit your game. Since they only appear on a weekly basis they take the longest time to court. Unfortunatly when you finally are able to marry one of the Mineral Town girls your game will end. After the credits finish rolling you will be able to reload your game from your last save spot and you will be unmarried again.

The gamers who post to the UNoT forum worked hard to collect the information about the girls' heart events as they played through the Japanese game. Credits also go to Blue, Chikita, Fawkes66, Harklan, Kyledove, Lalu, Myah-san, SPHIII, Yoopleroonie, and Susa-Ann.

After you have been married for a season or so, your wife (or yourself if you're playing the Girl version) may wake up one morning feeling ill. The two of you will head to Hardy's clinic and you will discovers that you're about to become parents!If you don't see this family event a season after marriage, make sure that you have kept your spouse's Love Points above 60,000 for 30 days.

When 60 more days have gone by your child will be born. If you can't remember when the due date is your spouse will remind you the day before. As soon as your child is born the game will skip ahead 3 years and your new baby will become a toddler. There are 5 different styles of children you can have. Which person you selected as a spouse will determine what type of child you can have.

In the girl version of Harvest Moon DS your child can be male or female. The child's clothing colors are exactly the same for both genders. In the boy version of HMDS your child is always male.

There is a mystery surrounding the birth of the girl child and the boy child in HMDS Cute, although many people have had success getting a girl child if they propose marriage on an odd-numbered day, and a boy child if they propose on an even-numbered day. Make sure there aren't any festivals that will occur on the day you are to be married (the 7th day after you propose), else your ceremony will be moved to the following day and you'll get the opposite gender child you were trying for.

Officially, the gender of the child is random.

If you choose to marry the special characters like Leia, Witch Princess, the Harvest Goddess, or Keria, the child those women will have will randomly be selected from the 5 styles available. In the girl version the random child style will be available for Skye and the boys from Mineral Town. If you had saved your game the night before you child was born and when it popped out it wasn't the style you wanted, just reload and you get another chance of getting the type you want. Keep in mind that this does not work in real life!

The child does not have the same personalities as in A Wonderful Life and each of the 5 are exactly the same; they just look different. After you child is born Barney's Circus will move into the valley. You can find him and Mimi down by Galen and Nina's house. Hugh and Kate will also grow to their teenager forms. One more big event will take place in the valley but that's something you have to see on your own.

Your child will grow into 2 more stages; a kid (9-years old) and a teenager (about 15 years old). Each stage change will take 2 years (240 days) to complete. When your child reaches the last stage it will stop growing. No matter how old your son (or daughter) is the child will never help you with any of the farm work. The child also does not ever marry any of the other residents in the valley.

Walk into Daryll's laboratory and you won't find the scientist around anywhere. You can then hear him shouting from the basement about finding the secrets to the mysteries of nature! What is he doing to the mermaid?! Charge into the basement to see what the crazy guy is up to.

Downstairs you'll startle Daryll, and he yells at you for thinking that he's using her as a science experiment. He tells Leia that he must immediately get back to his research and he leave the two of you alone. Once he's left, Leia laughs at your presumptions. She had been telling Daryll about her home town. She does thank you for worrying about her.

Blue Heart Event

Visit Leia in the basement. She wants to repay Daryll's kindness by doing some housework, so she wants to try and cook meals. Leia doesn't know very many recipes, but her recipe for Grilled Fish is excellent! Leia wants to try a piece of her new menu at this moment, and asks if you would taste test it for her.

Tell her it would be your pleasure (option #2), Leia will tell you to wait a moment while she hurries to make the dish. She returns with Boiled Fish made with Wine and gives it to you to try out. You tell her it is delicious and she is glad that she was able to cook something so tasty.

Yellow Heart Events

Walk into the laboratory while holding the bottle. Daryll notices that they can't open the bottle to retrieve it's content, and the seal on the bottle broke his "Super Ultra Great Delicious Wonderful Corkscrew", his "Hyper Miracle Sweet Gorgeous Beautiful Corkscrew", and his "Angel Eternal Pure Fresh Elegant Corkscrew". The normal, ordinary corkscrew that he had bought from Van was the only one that worked! Daryll read the message and realized it is for Leia.

Daryll takes the note to Leia. She explains it is from her mother. Mom is worried about her living in a bathtub and wants her to come home. Daryll tells her she is all better anyway so she should go back.

At the Beach Leia asks if it would be all right for her to return. Tell her it's always good to come back and she'll smile before she swims away.

You can catch a Bottled Message in the Ocean during the Spring season if you use a Mystrile or higher level Fishing Pole. The message will only appear after Leia's heart color turns Yellow (40,000 LP or higher).

The SUDGW, HMSGB, and AEPFE corkscrews Daryll refers to are a take on Won's special apples from past Harvest Moon games.
